Recently got my second generation Apple iPhone, and while it's a great little bit of kit there is a wee niggle that I'm not happy with. Every now and then, when I enter the texting application to reply to a message the springboard (on screen keyboard) is laggy. There is a noticeable delay when typing characters - which in today's 'should of been done 2 minutes ago' society, isn't good!

After playing around with various settings I started looking at what other applications utilise the springboard. And that led me to what I believe is a quick fix for this lag issue. If it starts happening then press the home button, tap 'notes' and create a new one (so that it pulls up springboard), type a few letters and you'll notice the lag has gone. Exit the note (probably best to delete it before hand though), then head back to your texting application and voila! your springboard will be back to normal (for the time being).

It seems to happen more after using Safari to browse some sites, so I guess until Apple develop a fix for this we're just going to have to grin and bear it.

This is the stupidest fix I've ever read in my life. Obviously, when you open the SMS screen, the OS is trying initialize some kind of dictionary or index based objects. By the time you do you "brilliant" suggestion the initialization is complete so that's why the lag is no more. If you just wait for however long your stupid solution takes on the SMS window, it would fix the lag as well. Are you stupid or something?

@ King - I'm guessing you like the word stupid. God I love anonymous comments :)

If you wait for the initialisation to complete you would be waiting a pretty log time - at on least my iPhone anyway. I've left it for over five minutes and the lag is still present.

Open Safari and hold the home button til it closes.  That seems to do the trick for me

Thanks!  Obviously King doesn't know what we're talking about here.  The problem doesn't just go away over time,  your guess about a dictionary loading isn't the issue.  King, lets leave the comments and forums to the big adults okay?

This is an annoying problem that Apple really needs to fix.
