Charlie Chuck Videos
Charlie Chuck has been one my favourite stand up comedians for some time. Despite never seeing him live I've always kept an eye out for performances or TV spots. It's not surprising the amount of people that haven't come
across this gem of British Comedy yet, which is probably why his humor is kept within a close circle of fans. It could also be down to the smaller
gigs he does, or lack of TV appearances over the past 10 years so, who knows, but I do know more people
need to experience the total confusion that surrounds his act.
Having stumbled upon the following videos while on Youtube I hastily did a wider search and found quite a few. Some, filed under the stage name of Charlie Chuck, and others from appearances on the Smell of Reeves and Mortimer playing a character called Uncle Peter. I've attempted to provide as much description as possible. If there are glaringly obvious gaps please let me know and I'll do my best to fill them.
Clip 1 - Charlie Chuck on the James Whale Radio Show.
Charlie Chuck on the James Whale Radio Show. This clip (circa. 1991)
was one of many appearances by Charlie on the late night show.
According to this Wiki entry, he was booked by James Whale after being spotted on Sky Star Search
(Sky TV) performing. This is one of two videos from the James Whale
show.
Clip 2 - Another clip of Charlie Chuck on the James Whale Radio Show.
Another video of Charlie Chuck on the James Whale Radio Show. This time
appearing with him is 'Edie' (stage name - she is actually his wife and
manager apparently), playing keyboards providing the introduction and backing
track to his routine. This is classic Charlie anarchy let loose....
Those symbols will never be the same again.. "Come 'ere.. I won't hurt
ya' - Classic!
It was
while talking to a few friends at one of the numerous VW shows I attend
with [uk-mkivs], I realised a handful of friends had also enjoyed his
totally archaic approach to stand up comedy. Cue the rest of the afternoon
at the show being spent uttering priceless catch phrases like "Woof bark
donkey!" and "Get away from me you one eyed dog".
When I got home
that evening I decided to see what information I could dig up. A quick
Google found quite a few results and even the official Charlie Chuck website, plus photo pages and gig reviews. However, I couldn't find any up to date information on recent performances / bookings. Having not experienced Charlie live I would really like to know of any up and coming performances - if you know of any please leave a comment and let me know.
I'll be posting more Charlie Chuck videos over the next few weeks - including the Smell of Reeves and Mortimer appearances and the Cadbury's Double Decker ads which aired in 2001. I'm sure you'll love them!
Remember you can submit a comment below if you have any up to date 'Charlie' info.
