Noting the number plate RS branding - could this be a hint to the next installment of the performance orientated approach VW seem to be taking? Sporting the same front bumper and side skirt design as the excellently titled "Thunderbunny" concept (see images blow), which debuted at the 2006 SEMA show in Vegas, could this of been a first peak at the new model?

Interesting to note in the press conference image above are the Passat R36 wheels - could this hint to the power plant under the bonnet? Users on [uk-mkivs] have long since debated as to whether the R36 lump could be fitted to the MkV chassis due to it's head size and weight. It would certainly be very fitting, given the speculation over the last two years regarding the long fabled new performance replacement for the original MKIV R32 model.

Rumour has it, that the same uprated 2.0 T FSI engine from the recently released Audi S3 will be used, but this would somewhat snub the recent tradition for big engined 4WD Volkswagen performance models that started life with the V6 4motion and R32.

More details as and when I get them....
