Over the last few months the whole 'Keeping a car in the garage' thing has been eating away at me. More than likely this is down to the Show Season now being over, and I'm so anal about keeping the car clean I refused to drive it around day-to-day. Taking the decision to sell up was the next logical step.

So, by this time tomorrow my 25th Anniversary will be sold. She's been a great car, but in a way I won't miss her. Why do I say this? I guess at the end of it all I'm now looking to get something a little more economical and bigger. Also, running two cars can be an expensive business - what with two insurance policies, paying to tax / MOT check two cars and any associated running costs to go with it. Given that I've lost around £1200 on the overall value of the car, I'm pleased that it didn't turn out to be a repeat of the loss experienced with my previous Golf, the Almighty R32. Loosing just over £6000 in value over 9 months of ownership sure makes your realise just how expensive a hobby cars can be!

All that said - The car had taken me to many different places, and gave me the opportunity to try out different styles and modifications. I'm happy that I've done what I set out to do when I originally purchased the car - which was basically - to run a second car purely for shows and meets. Having attended most of the major shows in 2006 (GTI International, VW Festival, VWNW, Edition 38 and the uk-mkivs Mega Meet) I'm glad the chance was there to show off the hard work and dedication put into maintaining car to show standard.

My next car? Well the Rover will do for now, but I'm keeping an eye on Autotrader and Ebay for a 130 PD or 150PD Bora TDI Sport. I quite like the thought of a saloon Mk4 platform car, which will fill the gap of two cars in my life. Current prices mean I should pick up a 2002/2003 high mileage example for around the £5-6000 mark. But, I do have a small voice in the back of my head telling me to keep on with the Rover, till maybe early next year.

After all, the money I'll have banked will only gain in value - the price of cars will always go down. That, to coin a phrase, is as certain as death and taxes!
