Recently in the past few weeks I've setup an account with Google Analytics. It's a free service that provides stats and information for website traffic analysis. You just simply place some code into each page you would like tracking and voila! you have access to reports from the data collected.

To add the tracking code to Community Server simply paste the code into your Raw Header section, found under Control Panel -> Administration -> Settings -> Site Name and Description.

You can also overide the site-wide configuration and enable custom headers for each individual blog. This would be useful if running multiple blog service and letting blog owners track their own blog's traffic. I haven't tested this feature as I'm running one blog, but I would be interested to see how it fairs.

I've already added a profile to the main site I run - uk-mkivs. Of course, with a site the size of uk-mkivs, it will take time to populate any data as such so that it becomes uable, but initial findings are looking good. I have been concerned over the past few months that uk-mkivs has been loosing traffic - be it from long time members moving on - or poor rankings with Google / Yahoo / MSN search. Hopefully the new reports will give an indication as to wether this is true. uk-mkivs was averaging around 12,000,000 hite per month but I fear a steep fall in this number is to be expected.

I've also added Google Analytics to this site - I don't expect massive amounts of traffic but I guess it will be nice to see if I get any.... *fingers crossed*
